Title: The New Azure SharePoint Farm Option

Starting July 14th, for the first time ever from Microsoft, a new SharePoint farm on Azure from scratch is just a few clicks. This is significant in 2 ways. For one, Microsoft is showing renewed commitment to the on-premises flavor of SharePoint. Secondly, for anyone who’s ever wanted their own SharePoint 2013 Farm in the cloud on the cheap and easy, this is a great new option you didn’t have yesterday. In this interactive session we'll check out the new Azure gallery from http://portal.azure.com. And we'll dig into the SharePoint Farm Template option and what it looks like when deployed from the gallery.

Abstract

When using SharePoint, sometimes, it's just as important to know when SharePoint isn't the right solution. Some of us have learned this the hard way. For my public blogging, I chose SharePoint many years ago and continued for too long. I recently migrated to Azure Web Sites.

Come to learn about some of the pros and cons of using SharePoint for Public Blogs, some of the challenges I overcame to migrate and some of the benefits of WordPress on Azure.

Session Abstract
With the release of SharePoint 2010, Microsoft introduced a new concept called "Claims" into its authentication and authorization capabilities.  SharePoint 2013 went a step further making Claims Based Authentication the default method for verifying that users are who they say they are when they login.  Claims, and identities in general, are playing a bigger role in the security capabilities of systems like SharePoint, enabling us to solve some new and exciting challenges for our customers.  This session will introduce the concepts of claims based authentication and authorization and discuss how identity is changing the way we secure applications.  It will include details on how to configure and use of claims in SharePoint 2013, as well as practical authorization examples from commercial enterprise, military and government.  Finally, it will present the options available for customizing these processes in Microsoft SharePoint 2013.
